John retired several years ago after handing over the reins to Tom. He continues to be seduced by the good life in Sweden, especially in the summer when he spends much time out on the water photographing the dare-devil exploits of the seemingly fearless younger members of the family. He also often acts as unofficial assistant lock-keeper on the Dalsland Kanal.

He continues to enjoy keeping up with technology, but admits that his knowledge is now vastly exceeded by Tom.
